Christmas Eve in the City

Also, du kannst uns gern ein Lied singen.

How on earth can you come up with the idea to go to the city center again on the morning of Christmas Eve? Everybody who has to enter an overcrowded grocery store that day for getting the rest of things needed for at least two more days of closed stores, might ask this question. But my personal long time experience shows that these few hours between 9 and 2 o’clock are some of the most peaceful moments in the city center during the whole weeks before Christmas Here everything closes up latest at 2 o’clock of the 24th until the 27th. Of course in the beginning my experience had a lot to do with being somehow very unorganized and busy but now a days this little trip became part of every year’s procedures. Some things for Christmas are always missing.
Yesterday, the sun was shining, no problem with free parking spots, no crowdy Christmas market anymore and just a few people on the streets and in the stores. We still needed some small gift for a cousin. So what about Lush, fresh handmade cosmetics from England? Even Super-P loves this tiny shop with its lovely smelling products and its pretty young and cool staff. And there was this advent calendar on the wall behind the cashier where most of the pockets were still filled with Lush testers and it was already December 24th . Super-P was irritated: “What are you guys doing with that advent calendar over there?” “Well, usually there is a bell ringing once a day and the first person coming here and singing a Christmas carol for us will get the gift of the day. Maybe you just want to sing a song? Or you and your Mom both can do it?” So there we were, background music “Last Christmas”, in the foreground an experimental a capella version of “Oh Tannenbaum”. We are now happy owners of Ruby Red Slippers (for a bath), Honey I Washed The Kids (a perfume) and Whoosh Temple Balm.
